A combination of well above average temperatures and humidity in the South is causing dangerous heat conditions Saturday.
High temperatures in the upper 90s and even low 100s plus dewpoint temperatures in the middle 70s are combining to cause the dangerous heat. Highs in Oklahoma and Texas will be anywhere from 5-10° above average for this time of year.
Heat Advisories are in place for much of south and east Texas, Louisiana, western Mississippi and parts of Arkansas. Heat indices could reach as high as 105° in these areas.
Excessive heat warnings are in place for northeast Texas, southeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas, where heat indices could top 115°.
If you have outdoor plans take breaks in the shade, stay hydrated and go inside where there is air condioning as needed to avoid becoming overheated.
High temperatures in western Louisiana will be at least 95° for many spots with heat indices around 105-110 °. The heat advisories acr0ss Louisiana come as over 400,000 customers in that state are still without power in the wake of Hurricane Laura. It’s especially important for those doing cleanup in affected areas to find cool places to rest to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Temperatures will cool down slightly for Oklahoma and Arkansas tomorrow following a slow moving cold front, but excessive heat and humidity continue into early next week for much of south and east Texas, Louisiana and western Mississippi.
