Organizations unite to raise scholarship funds

ALAMO, Tenn.—Two organizations collaborate for a special fundraiser.

Organized Gentlemen and L&S Connections in Alamo joined together Saturday, May 4 to host a fish fry fundraiser.

The event took place from noon until 6 in the evening at 506 South Bells Street.

Money raised from the fundraiser goes to support college scholarships for local youth.

The group also announced this year’s scholarship winners.

Valerie Gardner, a student at Crockett County High School, was the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. Gardner plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin this fall. She will major in Criminal Justice and aspires to be a detective.

Faith Wallace, a student at Camden High School, was also presented with a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville this fall and will major in Nursing. She wants to become a travel nurse.

Both groups would like to thank everyone who chose to support the cause either by purchasing a fish plate or by simply donating funds.

Organizers say without the community’s help, they would be unable to hosts such a successful event.

They also would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Shelia Simmons, Kevin Ligon, Kathy Yancy, Lance Emery, Paige Robertson, and Jada Young.
