The New Balance 1906D continues to explore the “Refined Future” aesthetic that’s widely (but incorrectly) become known as the “Protection Pack” look.
Spearheaded by Yue Wu, the “Refined Future” theme debuted on the New Balance 2002R in 2021. Since then, the distressed, “stuck in time” makeover has appeared on handfuls of offerings from the Boston-based brand, including the recently-revived NB 1906D. Akin to past styles, two newly-surfaced pairs opt for understated, tonal arrangements across their leather, mesh, and suede uppers. “Silver Metallic” and “Eclipse” finishes take on everything from the performance running-informed base layers to the frayed panels signature to Wu’s conceptual collection.
Beyond the relic-inspired details across the upper, the latest offerings from New Balance nod to the 2000s with their retro running technology. Everything from the N-lock system at the profiles to the New Balance 860v2’s sole unit has been tried-and-proven in the past. And given the “Refined Future” theme’s play on time, the NB 1906D makes for a perfect canvas for the concept.
Enjoy official photos of both styles ahead. Each “Refined Future” selection is now available at select shops overseas, with a stateside newbalance.com launch expected shortly.
