Manistee’s 425-megawatt coal burning power plant decision coming soon
The Manistee City Planning Commission crept closer to making a decision on the Northern Lights 425-megawatt coal burning power plant after Thursday’s public hearing but the true countdown won’t begin until Dec. 4.
By that time, commissioners should have the information they need to render a judgment on the special use permit request submitted by the Manistee Salt Works Development Corporation.

Turkeys for soldiers
(FROM THE UPI) — The Thanksgiving dinner table which Army and Navy cooks will set in Michigan tomorrow will be loaded with 32,300 pounds of turkey and more than 68,800 pounds of trimmage — vegetables, shrimp cocktail, fruits and nuts and other delicacies.
At Fort Custer alone, 16,000 pounds of turkey will be carved onto the metal mess trays of hungry soldiers. German prisoners of war quartered at the post will enjoy the same dinner as the American soldiers, some of them tasting turkey for the first time.
Deer harvested
Mrs. Ray Carty, of Bear Lake, joined the small list of successful women deer hunters yesterday when she shot her buck, a six-pointer weighing about 165 pounds, near her home.
Starting soon
Coming to the Vogue Theatre on Dec. 2 is Irving Berlin’s “This is the Army” starring the Men of the Armed Forces, George Murphy, Joan Leslie and Lt. Ronald Reagan. The movie will begin at 9 p.m.
