Dozens of homes impacted after gas leak in Darke Co., repairs continue – WHIO TV


GREENVILLE — UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m.:

Dozens of people are going to have to find somewhere else to sleep tonight after a gas leak in Darke County on Monday.

Greenville fire crews were called to the area of North Main Street and Spring Street around 11 a.m. after reports a gas line was struck, according to fire officials.

CenterPoint Energy crews shut off gas to 12 properties, according to a Centerpoint spokesperson.

When crews got on the scene they noticed a “substantial” active gas leak and notified CenterPoint Energy.

Repairs are expected to be completed by 11:30 p.m., Centerpoint said.

It is not known how many people had to leave their homes due to the outage.

INITIAL REPORT:

Residents in a Greenville neighborhood were asked to leave their homes Monday afternoon after a “major natural gas leak.”

The leak has been reported in the area of North Main Street and Spring Street, according to the Greenville Police Department.

Neighbors are asked to self-evacuate and take all medications and pets with them.

Anyone who smells gas inside their home is asked to call 911.

Power may be shut off as CenterPoint Energy makes repairs, the police department said.
