DNC Helped Pay Biden’s Legal Bills in Classified Docs Case: Report

The Democratic National Committee paid more than $1.5 million to offset Joe Biden’s legal costs during Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into the president’s handling of classified documents, according to Axios. The DNC outlays made headlines because Democrats have slammed former President Donald Trump and the GOP for using donor funds to finance his defense in four separate criminal cases he is facing. But the amount is a small fraction of the $100 million-plus Trump has spent on his own legal bills since grudgingly vacating the Oval Office, almost entirely paid for using campaign donations from supporters. A joint fundraising agreement Trump recently made with the RNC, which is now co-chaired by his daughter-in-law, first funnels all donations to his campaign committee, which then sends them to the leadership PAC paying Trump’s lawyers, after which the RNC finally gets its cut. A DNC spokesman told Axios, “There is no comparison—the DNC does not spend a single penny of grassroots donors’ money on legal bills—unlike Donald Trump, who actively solicits legal fees from his supporters and has drawn down every bank account he can get his hands on, like a personal piggy bank.”
