CORE to host public info meetings on Coal Basin methane emissions
The Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) and Delta Brick & Climate Company partnered to study the methane emissions escaping from the mines at Coal Basin in Redstone and explore potential solutions. In 2023, methane release data confirmed that a significant amount of emissions are being released into the atmosphere. These findings will be presented to the community at two upcoming events in Pitkin County.

“We believe that the data collection and analysis conducted over the last nine months indicates an urgent need to take action to reduce our region’s negative impact on climate change,” said John Dougherty, chief executive officer with CORE.
Each Coal Basin community event will include a presentation about the project, including data results and recommended mitigation measures, as well as a question and answer session. Feedback collected from the events will be considered as CORE prepares its proposal to the United States Forest Service to proceed with mitigation efforts.
