Paving the road to hell

To say I am upset by the “agreement” between Polis, the oil and gas folks and environmental groups would be like saying the Titanic took on a bit of water during her maiden voyage.

Firstly, we have a damn sight more than nine environmental groups in Colorado. Earthjustice, Conservation Colorado, Southwest Energy Efficiency Project, GreenLatinos, and Western Resource Advocates and the others are very few of the hundreds of environmental groups here. Secondly, there are more than three oil and gas companies. Occidental Petroleum, Civitas Resources, and Chevron are big boys, but they are a small slice of the numerous companies.

So, what the governor has done is basically take a subset of two opposing groups, claim an agreement, and used this to kill bills and initiatives that would have protected Coloradans and our environment, claiming that “this time it will be different.” (Oh, yeah, Hick pulled the same stunt a few years ago!)

The road to hell is paved with “good” intentions, this road may well lead to the political Twilight Zone for Jared while leading to more broken promises by the industry for the rest of us.
