Assam: Illegal coal-carrying vehicle vandalizes student waiting shed at Sister

A student waiting shed at Sister Nivedita High School in Ledo, under the 83 number Margherita Constituency, fell victim to vandalism by an illegal coal-carrying max pick-up vehicle.

Since the establishment of the BJP-led government in the state, the illegal coal syndicate has seen a significant surge in the 83 number Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district. Local sources, speaking anonymously, revealed that over 1000 illegal coal-carrying max pick-up vehicles traverse the Jharna Basti road, located opposite the Ledo post office, day and night. The incessant noise and safety concerns have left residents sleep-deprived, with incidents of vehicles hitting people and fleeing the scene becoming alarmingly frequent.

The illegal coal-carrying max pick-up vehicles reportedly originate from Dip mining at 3 number Mulung Pahar of Tirap Colliery. Residents allege that a syndicate gang charges Rs 200 from every vehicle, leading to a daily collection ranging from Rs 2 Lakhs to Rs 3 Lakhs. The coal syndicate has even established a timetable, dictating specific times during which only these illegal vehicles can ply the Jharna Basti road.

The situation has taken a toll on the students of Sister Nivedita High School in Ledo, as the constant disturbance impedes their ability to concentrate on studies. Distressed by the worsening conditions, local residents, requesting anonymity, are urging the Margherita sub-divisional administration (civil) to take stringent action against those involved in the illicit coal mining trade at Dip mining of 3 number Mulung Pahar.
