Anthony Albanese, Labor lashed by Coalition; Kim Williams to become ABC chair;

In addition to speaking to Sky News earlier today, Deputy Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has also held a press conference in Perth, where she said Labor’s 2022 federal election win was “built on a lie”.

“Today we hear for sure that the stage three tax cuts are no longer going ahead,” Ley said. “So Anthony Albanese lied to the Australian people and by extension, every single local member lied to the Australian people.”

Ley challenged Pearce MP Tracy Roberts and Tangney MP Sam Lim, both elected in Labor’s storming electoral victory, to say whether they “support the lie that your Prime Minister told to win the election.”

“And if you can’t trust Anthony Albanese on this, what can you trust him on? What tax policy is under the gun next? Will it be changes to taxation on the family home? Will there be an increase Medicare Levy or a new NDIS Levy? Will it be new taxes on negative gearing?” she said.

Ley was asked during the press conference whether it was risky for the Coalition to oppose the changed to the stage three cuts, given they were aimed at middle Australia.

“It’s so clear that what they are doing now is all about the politics,” she said. It of course, is about the politics of envy and class war with Labor. It always is. It’s about the politics of positioning themselves for the by-election in Dunkley [in Melbourne’s south-east], that’s a long, long way from Western Australia.”
