Wife of Trump cabinet member tests positive for Covid-19 more than two weeks

The wife of Donald Trump’s Labour Secretary Eugene Scalia has tested positive for Covid-19, according to a statement from the department.

Trish Scalia was tested by doctors on Tuesday afternoon after experiencing mild symptoms. She is said to be doing well.

The Scalias both attended the 26 September Rose Garden ceremony for the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Ms Scalia was pictured sitting directly behind first lady Melania Trump and next to Kellyanne Conway, both of whom also tested positive for Covid-19 at what is now regarded as a coronavirus superspreader event.

Approximately 30 people linked to the White House, including the president, are known to have contracted Covid-19 since that day.

The Labor Department statement says: “The secretary and Mrs Scalia will follow the advice of health professionals for Trish’s recovery and the health of those around them. For the time being, the secretary will work from home while continuing to carry out the mission of the Department and the president’s agenda.”

There have been 7.9 million confirmed cases on Covid-19 in the US and 216,000 officially recorded deaths.
