When the June Social Security cheques arrive: exact schedule

Every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) issues millions of payments to beneficiaries of its Program. Recipients range from retired workers to individuals with some form of disability who generally fall into the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) category.

Payments are apportioned based on the date of birth of the beneficiaries. Those born between the first and tenth of the month get their money on the second Wednesday of the period. Those with a date of birth between the 11th and 20th receive their money on the third and those with a date of birth between the 21st and 31st receive their money on the last.

It should be noted that workers who retired before 1997 and those receiving SSI benefits do not fall under the above payment schedule, as SSA sends them the money during the first few days of the month. If a beneficiary gets regular Social Security payments and is also an SSI recipient, the Administration will prioritize the SSI payment at the beginning of the month and the regular payment will be issued until the third day.

Schedule of Social Security payments in June

Taking into account how the payments are distributed, we share with you the Social Security payment schedule for the month of June, according to official information from the SSA:

  • Monday, June 3: Beneficiaries who started getting their payments before May 1997
  • Wednesday, 12: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 1st and the 10th
  • Tuesday, 18: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between 11 and 20 (sent on Tuesday because the 19th is Juneteenth Day)
  • Wednesday, 26: Beneficiaries with date of birth between 21 and 31

When the payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the SSA advances the issuance of payments. As a result, recipients born between the 11th and 20th will get their money on Tuesday, while SSI recipients are not scheduled to receive any payments in June. This is because the respective check for the month will be brought forward to Friday the 31st, as the original date falls on a weekend.

How much money are the payments?

The exact amount will depend on each person’s situation. However, the SSA has estimates that put the average payment for a retired worker at $1,907 for individuals and $3,303 for couples filing jointly. For SSI recipients, the estimated check is $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples.

Social Security payments increase year by year thanks to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), which is a measure that serves to match the Administration’s payments with ongoing inflation. In 2024, the COLA increase was 3.4%.
