Standard Times Neediest Families Fund kicks off
NEW BEDFORD — On this Giving Tuesday, The Standard-Times is kicking off its annual Neediest Families Fund campaign.
“At this time of year, people in Greater New Bedford need help more than ever. As in years past, the funds raised will go to helping the area’s neediest families. We’re proud to spearhead this community-wide effort that is now in its 102nd year,” said Standard-Times Editor Linda Murphy.
“The Neediest Families Fund provides more than food and clothing for folks in our communities — it also provides hope. I can attest to that because my family benefitted from the generosity of those giving to the fund. Even as a child, I experienced a true sense of community and the power of giving back,” said SouthCoast Community Foundation President and CEO, Melanie Edwards-Tavares.
“The Community Foundation is proud to manage the Neediest Families Fund. We are committed to ensuring that those in need are cared for during the holiday season and every day.”
Last year, the Neediest Families Fund donations totaled $92,469.
“The Neediest Families Fund is one of the oldest funds in our region. It has stood the test of time because of the generosity of our South Coast communities. We care for each other, and we come together to make sure our neighbors, next door or a few towns over, can experience the joy of the season,” added Tavares.
