Springdale Manor high-rise evacuated after natural gas leak, no injuries
About 90 residents of the Springdale Manor high-rise were evacuated Tuesday night after an apparent natural gas leak was discovered.
A crew from People gas was on the scene to locate and repair the leak.
Springdale police Chief Derek Dayoub said all of the high-rise residents got out safely. The high-rise is operated by the Allegheny County Housing Authority, which also had personnel on the scene.
The residents initially were taken to a small shopping center next store where they kept warm at the Beer World and Dollar General. Plans were being made to bring in a bus to take them to the Springdale Borough Building.
The incident closed the main artery through Springdale, Pittsburgh Street, for several blocks in either direction.
Dayoub said the gas company was trying to find the leak as of about 8:30 p.m.
