Spooky Stroudsburg features scavenger hunt, decor contest, and festivities |

STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Stroudsburg is getting into spooky season. It’s hosting contests and events to attract locals and visitors alike.

“Our town in October transforms into Spooky Stroudsburg,” said Jody Singer, the artistic director at GO Collaborative.

You’ll be greeted by ghosts and goblins, as you participate in the Spooky Stroudsburg Scavenger Search.

“The first clue is here at Pocono Arts Council,” said Trudyann Buckley, the recreation manager at Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation Committee.

The hunt brings you walking all around downtown. Clues at 15 different businesses help you solve a mystery about Alicia the Astronaut.

“She is a space astronaut who wants to visit every planet in the solar system, including the dwarf planets, so you get to go collect all of the planets where she has been,” said Buckley.

Where she hasn’t been is the answer to the puzzle.

The goal, Buckley explains, is “to see people be outside, be active, learn about their communities…we work with GO Collaborative and the Downtown Business Association to get this running so that we can connect people to downtown Stroudsburg, give people the opportunity to see businesses they may not have seen before.”

Everyone with the right answer is entered into a winner’s raffle. The first prize is four tickets to the Great Wolf Lodge and the second prize is four tickets to the Sherman Theater.

You’ll notice as you stroll that so many store fronts are decked out in fall decor. That’s because next week, a competition begins among businesses.

You can vote for your favorite look on the Spooky Stroudsburg event page on Facebook.

All of this leads to a day of fun Oct. 28 in Courthouse Square.

There will be pumpkin painting, plus Pocono Wildlife is bringing creatures of the night.

“We have 70 businesses that are going to hand out candy between 3 and 5 p.m.,” said Singer. “We have some magic happening with Mark Mysterrio, and at 5:30, we have a really cool witches dance.”
