Silver Spring Intermediate School, Templeton Middle School and Hamilton High
SUSSEX — A soft lockdown took place at Silver Spring Intermediate School, Templeton Middle School and Hamilton High School on Friday morning, according to Hamilton School District Superintendent Paul Mielke.
Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department ordered a soft lock down at 10 a.m. due to a situation that was taking place off campus.
A school resource officer and Hamilton High School administration spoke with a high school student about a concerning picture posted on social media.
“There was no specific threat made in the post and at no time did authorities determine the student posed a threat while in the building,” a press release said.
When asked about the post, the student fled the high school campus and deputies began a brief pursuit. During the off campus pursuit, the sheriff’s department determined the three schools should be placed on lockdown.
“The student was detained by authorities off campus and taken in for further questioning. district officials are working with law enforcement to follow established disciplinary procedures,” according to a press release.
During the soft lockdown a building wide announcement was made and normal classroom activity continued, while both interior and exterior doors were locked.
“Although we hope never to have to implement these procedures, communication and routine drills throughout the school year prepare us to handle unforeseen situations like today’s.
Please know we communicate as quickly as possible once we have accurate information to share and felt a district wide message was necessary despite the fact that most of our school buildings were not involved,” the release said.
