SILVER CREEK — At a recent Board of Education meeting, two experienced teachers were recently hired as the newest members of the Silver Creek Elementary School staff.

Maria Caughel and Amanda Vetter were selected to probationary teaching positions set to commence Aug. 30. Caughel, who holds Professional Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2), Childhood Education in grades one to six, and Students with Disabilities in grades one to six, comes to the district with 16 years of teaching experience. Vetter, who holds Professional Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2) and Childhood Education in grades one to six, brings nine years of experience to her new role. Both new hires will be eligible for tenure after four years of service to the district.

Additionally, the district hired Michele Valentine as an Administrative Aide and Sheila Casper as a long-term substitute Spanish teacher. Casper is currently working toward certification in Spanish 7-12. She will be filling in for Alicia Rutkowski, who was approved for unpaid childrearing leave for the upcoming school year after the birth of her son, Josziah.

The district also approved a handful of resignations at the recent board meeting. Among the resignations were Maxine Meyerhofer, elementary teacher; Linda Okon, administrative aide; Audriana Russo, teacher aide; and Christopher Postle, social worker. Postle was recently appointed earlier this summer, but elected to resign to remain with his previous employer.
