RM375,000 seized evidence to be destroyed

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The police here will dispose of almost 11 years’ worth of seized items, including crypto mining machines worth more than RM375,000 that have been kept as evidence.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Rahmat Ariffin said the disposal of evidence items was divided into four categories: crypto mining machines, contraband, gambling and general items.

“The items that will be disposed of involve 166 investigation papers that have been completed and have received court orders for them to be destroyed.

“All the items that are going to be disposed of had been seized from 2012 up until early this year,” he said in his speech before disposing of some of the seized items at Iskandar Puteri police district headquarters here yesterday.

ACP Rahmat added that the seized crypto mining machines involved six investigation papers valued at RM163,200.

He said RM106,566 worth of seized contraband items from eight investigation papers involving liquor, beer and illicit cigarette would also be disposed of.

“For the gambling category, it involved 125 investigation papers, where the seized items included computers, smartphones and other electronic devices with a total value of RM103,680.

“Police will also dispose of general items involving 27 investigation papers, where the items include chemical envelopes, a forensics envelope, sharp weapons, and other items worth RM1,720,” he said, adding that the total value of all seized items was RM375,166.

ACP Rahmat said disposing of the evidence would free up a significant amount of space in the police evidence storage.
