Pa. American Water issues voluntary restriction alert for parts of Northampton

Residents in sections of Northampton County are being asked to limit their non-essential water usage.

Pennsylvania American Water issued a notification Sunday asking customers to voluntarily limit their water use until further notice.

“A voluntary conservation notice has been issued as of Sunday, June 23rd at 8:00 am for customers in all Blue Mountain and Nazareth to reduce water usage,” the alert says. “You reside in the affected area. We ask that you voluntarily limit all non-essential water use until further notice.”

Pennsylvania American Water External Affairs Manager Susan Turcmanovich said recent storms caused power outages that affected the local plant.

The restrictions will be in place until the plant is fully operational, she said. The alert states the restrictions are estimated to end by Wednesday at 8 p.m.

While the alert does not specify the affected areas, the company website has a map with affected areas highlighted.

The map indicates sections of Palmer, Tatamy, Nazareth, Bushkill Township, Wind Gap and Pen Argyl.

The alert provides a schedule for outdoor water use. Street addresses with even numbers should use water outdoors only on even numbered days and odd numbered addresses should use water outdoors on odd number days.
