Oxford County town institutes immediate ‘boil water’ order

Due to a water main break in the town of Norway, residents and businesses must take precautions before consuming water.

The Oxford County town of Norway has issued an immediate “boil water” order, citing a water main break on Radcliff Street. A notice posted on the town’s Facebook page specified that “due to the possibility of unsafe water” residents in the Norway Water District should boil water intended to be consumed for at least one minute at a rolling boil. That includes any water used for drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, brushing teeth, or “any other activity involving consumption of water.”The order will remain in effect until further notice. The Water District says this does not affect the neighboring Oxford Water District, or anyone in Norway with a private well. Anyone with questions should call 207-743-2414 during business hours. After hours, residents should call 1-866-467-1493.
