Officials work to clean oil spill near Kremlin


An investigation is underway after a massive oil spill happened Friday near Kremlin. The spill stretches nearly three miles. KOCO was told this happened at a drilling mud disposal site. Landowners in the Kremlin area woke up to oil running through creeks and pastures. That creek supplies the water for that pasture,” said Hayes. The oil got into the creek and went right through Hayes’ pasture. He said this is causing problems because he has livestock on that land. “If those bulls drank very much of the water, it could have a big impact on them,” said Hayes. “I’ve seen what oily water does to livestock.”The oil covered about a half a mile of his property, according to Hayes. “We could go in and mow some of it, I guess, and take it off that way, but you couldn’t turn livestock in there,” said Hayes. It is unknown how long it will take to pump out all of the oil in the area. “They’ve come in and put up temporary dams at the crossings and bridges to try to trap any more oil that’ll wash down with the rain,” said Hayes.
