New ‘pretirement’ initiative encourages retirement planning in your 40s and 50s


A recent survey by AARP found that 1 in 5 adults have no retirement savings.Nearly 2 out of 3 are worried they won’t have enough money to last into their later years, according to the organization. Now there’s a new push to get people planning for their financial future.According to a news release, “AARP and the Ad Council have launched a new initiative called ‘This is Pretirement’ that encourages those nearing retirement to plan for their financial future. “Pretirement” refers to the period in people’s lives – typically during their 40s and 50s – when they are closer to retirement than they are to the start of their career and beginning to plan for the next phase of their life.Mary Liz Burns, senior director of communications strategy at AARP, joined KCRA 3’s Brandi Cummings this morning to explain.
