Nearly 1,400 without power due to Virginia Square outage
|
Nearly 1,400 homes and businesses are without power in and around Virginia Square.
The outage is affecting parts of the Virginia Square, Ballston and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. The cause is “pending investigation” and restoration is expected between 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
A tipster told ARLnow that the power first went out in the wee hours of the morning, before 5 a.m.
Thankfully for those affected, today is expected to be much more temperate than the weekend, with a high of 86 predicted — in contrast to the 100 degree day yesterday.
For those dealing with hot homes and bored kids as a result of the outage, Arlington’s parks department has a possible solution: spraygrounds are opening at 10 a.m. with extended hours today.
Due to the excessive heat, all spraygrounds will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Mon., June 24.

Around 10:30 a.m. another Arlington power outage was reported, this time in the Woodmont neighborhood of northern Arlington. About 50 homes are without electricity due to a tree that fell on power lines, according to scanner traffic.
