Mineral Ridge, Ohio 8th grader, Jonny Culp, takes two gold medals at the Adidas

GREENSBORO, NC (WKBN) – Mineral Ridge Middle School graduate Jonathan Culp took home two gold medals in the Adidas Outdoor Track National Meet in Greensboro, North Carolina, Friday.

Culp brought home both the gold medals in the Middle School shot put and discus events. The Mineral Ridge student also set Adidas Outdoor Track National Meet records in both events.

Culp’s gold medal mark of 53.22 meters (174’7″) in the disc broke a meet record of (168’10”). He also crushed the shot put meet record (53’3.25″) with his first place toss of 17.41 meters (57’1.25″).

The 14-year-old recently graduated from Mineral Ridge Middle School. This season, Culp broke all the Mineral Ridge Middle School records for throwers.

According to his coach, Culp also broke at least five shot put and disc meet records. Culp also received All-Ohio honors in track & field as an eighth grader.

The Mineral Ridge standout also won the Ohio Junior High Indoor State Championship while setting an indoor state meet record. He had a throw of 53’10”, which broke the old record of 48’5″ which was set in 2023.

According to his father, the 8th-grade star also set an Ohio state meet record with a shot put throw of 59’7″.

Culp will continue his academic and athletic career as a freshman at Mineral Ridge High School starting in August 2024.
