Manhunt underway for suspect in double shooting at Silver Springs

Law enforcement officials are on the hunt for a man who is suspected to be the culprit in a double shooting in Silver Springs on Wednesday.

On June 26, The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Lahontan State Park Ranger Station at Lake Lahontan for a report of a man who had been shot multiple times around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the shooting took place at a residence in the 3900 block of Birch Street in Silver Springs.

Deputies responded to the residence where they found a second man suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities say both men were transported via Careflight for further treatment. One victim has since been released while the other remains hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities have identified the suspect in Wednesday’s shooting of two Silver Springs residents as 53-year-old Stephen Thomas Shytle, a resident of Silver Springs.

On the morning of June 29 the Nevada Division of State Parks Rangers found Stephen Shytle’s white dodge truck at Lake Lahontan. It was determined that the vehicle was unoccupied, and after a search, it was determined Shytle was not in the area. The truck was seized by investigators.

Shytle remains at large and is wanted for multiple felony charges stemming from this investigation. Shytle should be considered armed and dangerous and the public is urged not to make contact with him.
