Manchester Schools Get Gold Star For Personal Finance Class
Real-life financial skills like budgeting and understanding credit are part of the course, which is required for all Manchester students.

MANCHESTER, NJ — It’s a constant gripe: That teens are graduating high school with no real grasp of real-life personal finance issues.
The Manchester Township School District is working to ensure its graduates have been armed with an understanding of basic personal finance, and its effort to do so has earned it recognition from a national nonprofit organization.
Next Gen Personal Finance, which is advocating for comprehensive personal finance courses in schools throughout the country, recognized Manchester Township High School as one of 145 Gold Standard Schools in New Jersey because it requires a standalone personal finance course.
There are 23 states in the United States that require a standalone course for all high school students. New Jersey’s student learning standards require personal finance concepts to be taught but the state’s requirement isn’t recognized by Next Gen Personal Finance.
