Mahua Moitra asked to appear before Enforcement Directorate next week in forex

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in an alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act violation case, sources told India Today TV.

Mahua Moitra was asked to appear before the probe agency on Monday but the Trinamool MP did not turn up at the ED’s office.

Mahua Moitra had sought three weeks’ time from the ED, sources said. She has now been asked to depose by next week at the central agency’s office in Delhi.

The ED is probing transactions linked to a non-resident external (NRE) account in the case apart from a few other foreign remittances and transfer of funds.

Mahua Moitra is being probed by the CBI as well which is conducting a preliminary inquiry into the allegations levelled by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

Dubey had accused Moitra of asking questions in Lok Sabha to target the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.

Dubey also accused Moitra of compromising national security for monetary gains.

Mahua Moitra has rejected the allegations, claiming that she was being targeted as she had raised questions on the deals of the Adani Group.
