Maharashtra’s industries department has formed a six-member task group to submit recommendations on controlling riotous (rowdy) elements, which are creating problems for industries in the state.
Amid allegations by the Opposition that the state is lagging behind industrial development and job creation, the Maharashtra government has appointed a six-member study group to promote industries as well as to solve the problems faced by industrial units that are already functional.
The committee will be headed by Development Commissioner (Industries) and will have representatives from skill development department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), land records, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and urban planning.
The committee will work on six important issues and has been tasked to present its report by June 10 to the chief secretary.
“A meeting of the industries department’s high power committee was held in April where many issues concerning the state’s industries were discussed. Among the issues discussed, one that was red-flagged was about the trouble from rowdy elements and it was decided that it needs to be handled seriously,” said an official from the industries department.
The official added that this issue was included in the committee’s scope of work because of increasing complaints.
The report will also include making available the information of industrial plots online on a website, reclaiming / reusing the industrial plots which are not in use and redistributing it, ensuring infrastructure development for industries outside MIDC area, regularising residential use on land near industrial areas and extending skill development training to unemployed youth with the help of industries.
The Opposition has been alleging that the state is lagging behind industrial development due to political slugfest, especially after the departure of the Vedanta-Foxconn project from Maharashtra.
However, as per the data released by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on May 30, Maharashtra has attracted the highest foreign direct investment for the second consecutive year in 2023-24 amounting to Rs 1,25,101 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said that this was a result of efforts taken by the Mahayuti government. “We don’t speak. We work. It takes courage to walk the talk. Just mindless blabbering is of no use,” he said.
