Odisha’s sweet dish ‘Rasabali’ gets GI tag
‘Rasabali’, a famous sweet dish of Odisha’s Kendrapara district, has received geographical indication (GI), giving a boost to sweet makers. The Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, under the ministry of commerce and industry on Tuesday accorded the GI tag to the sweet dish, which is popularly known as ‘Kendrapara Rasabali.”Kendrapara Rasabali Mistanna Nirmata Sangha’ and the rural infrastructure development and employment department had applied for GI tag for ‘Rasabali’ and submitted supporting documents to the registry.

‘Kalimpong situation critical’
Uttam Rai, Cooperative Chairman Block 1, Kalimpong, said that the situation in Kalimpong is critical. “Some lost their homes…A lot of damage happened, the entire highway got damaged and it’s closed…It (NH10) is blocked and will not be operational in the coming 10-15 days,” Rai added.

Gold futures fall on low demand
Gold prices on Wednesday fell Rs 89 to Rs 56,838 per 10 grams in futures trade as speculators reduced their positions. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for December delivery traded lower by Rs 89 or 0.16 per cent at Rs 56,838 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 15,663 lots. Analysts attributed the fall in gold prices to the trimming of positions by participants.Globally, gold was trading 0.17 per cent lower at USD 1,838.40 per ounce in New York.

Sikkim Flash Floods
3 bodies recovered from Tessta Barrage after a sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim resulted in a flash flood in the Teesta River in Lachen valley on Wednesday, which was compounded by the release of water from a dam, leading to 23 army personnel being washed away, camps and vehicles being submerged, officials said. The floods started around 1.30 am, they said.

Kalimpong flash floods: “We have started the evacuation of people. Hopefully, there will be no loss of lives….We had safely rescued a family from Kalimpong (that had three members) but they left our camp and got stuck. We have sent a unit of the Army, it is trying to locate them,” West Bengal Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi said.
