ISP blaming oil cooler issue for new police cruisers failing


Troopers with the Indiana State Police are facing car troubles as the department moves to using Dodge Durangos.State police began transitioning from the Dodge Charger to the Dodge Durango in May of last year.Since then, the department has ordered 516 Durangos with more than 200 being assigned for patrol duties.Thirty-nine of the new SUVs have experienced mechanical failure due to defective oil coolers.The average downtime for an engine replacement or repair is four to eight weeks.“To get these fixed as quickly as possible, get them back on the road, and so we can just have business as usual, you know, so we can be out there serving the public we want to,” said Indiana State Police Sgt. Ted Bohner.ISP officials say they’ve talked with a Chrysler representative, but they were not given a timeline for resolving the matter.
