Coal dispatch also grew 8.49%.
The Indian Government has announced that the country’s coal production reached 294.20 million tonnes (MT) as of 19 July 2024, a 10.70% growth from 265.77 MT a year ago, as the country boosts efforts to meet increasing energy demand whilst maintaining a focus on sustainable economic development.
In a statement, the Ministry of Coal also announced an 8.49% increase in coal dispatch, recording 311.48 MT in the same period.
“This increase in dispatch not only supports the operational needs of key industries but also contributes to the overall stability of the energy market. The Ministry of Coal remains dedicated to ensuring that coal remains an affordable and accessible resource for all sectors of the economy, thereby reinforcing the nation’s commitment to growth and development,” authorities said.
For the fiscal year 2024-2025, the ministry has set a coal production target of 1,080 MT.
The Indian government has rolled out initiatives to boost local production of coal and to eliminate non-essential importation as it sees demand to increase to about 1.5 billion tonnes by 2029 to 2030.
