Gas well blows out at Bear Creek Storage in Bienville; 1 injured

BIENVILLE, La. (KSLA) – A Kinder Morgan gas well experienced an issue during maintenance work, causing a blowout.

On May 8, during maintenance work by a contractor, a gas well at the Bear Creek Storage facility, 10275, LA-507, in Bienville parish experienced a blowout, releasing natural gas. The impacted well was isolated from the rest of the storage facility.

A contractor was injured when the well blew. His condition is unknown at this time.

On May 10, the well was able to be pumped down and capped, stopping the release of natural gas.

“We have resumed normal operations at the facility, but the impacted well will remain isolated and shut down. There are no ongoing impacts on the environment or community,” says Kinder Morgan, the energy infrastructure company that operates the facility.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident.
