Four-Bedroom Modern Mansion In Pacific Heights Hits Market for $38 Million

It won’t set a record if it sells for asking price, but a very large home at the edge of Pacific Heights, sitting right beside the Lyon Street Steps, is currently the most expensive home for sale in San Francisco.

It was the home of philanthropists and sailing aficionados Fritz and Lucy Jewett, and it’s for sale by their son, George Jewett, 67, as the Chronicle informs us. The listing agents are Joseph Lucier and Stacey Caen of Sotheby’s International, and they’ve just put up this splashy website for the listing, with an asking price of $38,000,000 — no nines involved, because nobody’s trying to play around here on price.

The 4-bedroom, 10-bathroom home was designed for two lavishly wealthy empty-nesters and built in 1987, specifically with entertaining in mind. The house boasts a seven-car garage, in-home gym, spa, hot tub, and a full-service wet bar, as well as a balcony that spans the width of the house and overlooks the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge.

There are also two primary bathrooms off the main suite — styled as his and hers, each with its own dressing room and closet area attached.

The home is being sold following the death last year of Lucy Jewett at age 94.

George Jewett tells the Chronicle that his parents entertained guests over the years who included former President George H.W. Bush, Britain’s Prince Philip, and House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. And both his parents were avid sailers, and were inducted into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, in addition to serving on numerous boards in their later years, including the Asian Art Museum and SF Ballet boards.

The house at 2990 Broadway sits at the end of Broadway where the street dead-ends at the Presidio Wall — and, uniquely, it west-facing frontage has no neighbor besides the famed, beautifully landscaped, Lyon Street Steps.

As the agents note to the Chronicle, another home nearby on Broadway sold for the record price of $43.5 million in 2021.
