Ford union workers in Louisville vote yes to authorize strike


Union Auto Workers in Louisville have voted to authorize a strike if a contract is not accepted from Ford Motor Company.The UAW Local 862 voted overwhelmingly to support the right to strike with a 99% ‘yes’ vote, according to President Todd Dunn.Video in the player above is from when voting is still happening.The result does not necessarily mean there will be a strike. The union said this gives their labor contract negotiators support from workers showing they are willing to take extra steps, if necessary, to get the contract they want. UAW Local 862 represents rank-and-file members at the Louisville assembly plant and Kentucky truck plant. They began voting at 11:30 a.m. Monday whether to approve a nationwide strike by the union. The polls closed at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. In a statement, Ford said the automaker is looking forward to working on solutions.“Ford is proud to build more vehicles in America and employ more UAW-represented hourly workers in America than any other automaker. We look forward to working with the UAW on creative solutions during this time when our dramatically changing industry needs a skilled and competitive workforce more than ever.”The current labor contract expires in three weeks.
