Entire Connecticut island lists for $900K and quickly sells

For the price of a nice New York City home, an entire isolated swath of land hit the market — and quickly went off it. 

Within weeks of becoming available at an asking price of $900,000, Connecticut’s private Mouse Island has already been scooped up.

Located at the mouth of the state’s Mystic River, off the coast of the Morgan Point Lighthouse and respectively to the south and east of two other islands — Fishers and Ram — the little 0.27-acre slice of land with a home on top is freshly under contract. It’s final sale price, however, isn’t yet known. 

“This totally green off-the-grid island home will provide you the oasis retreat you’ve been seeking,” says the listing. “Land is within sight and you are close to everything Mystic and Noank have to offer, while enjoying the privacy of an island accessible only by boat.”

The two-story home on the island has four bedrooms with panoramic water views in every room and an open-plan first floor with a large kitchen, a dining area and a fireplace-equipped living room, as well as the single full bathroom.

The bedrooms are all located on the second floor, and there’s additionally an east-facing ground-floor porch. 

There’s exposed wood beams, white walls and a beach house aesthetic throughout.

All of the “lovely cottage furnishings” — from Adirondack chairs, appliances, a generator and other household furniture — are included in the sale, as is an Eastern 18-foot skiff with a motor, for escapades around the river, trips to Mystic, or whatever the captain’s pleasure may be. 

The buyer will also enjoy the company of some non-paying guests, namely the egrets and striped bass which come by sky and sea to orbit and rest upon Mouse Island and its waters.
