Crews work to repair water main break in SE GR

Crews work to repair a water main break on Evergreen Street and Kalamazoo Avenue in southeast Grand Rapids on Friday, June 14, 2024.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Crews are working to repair a water main break in southeast Grand Rapids Friday morning.

The city said the water main break happened around 12 a.m. near the intersection of Evergreen Street SE and Kalamazoo Avenue SE.

Kalamazoo is closed from Oakdale to Ramona as crews work to make the repairs. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.

It’s about a half mile from a water main break that flooded a neighborhood near the intersection of Adams Street SE and Philadelphia Avenue SE Thursday. The break prompted a boil water advisory for around 200 homes.

The city said Friday’s water main break is a separate and smaller one than Thursday’s. It’s not uncommon for additional leaks like this to result from changes in flows and pressure.

Friday’s break has impacted only a few properties, and no boil water has been issued.
