Commodity market today: MCX to remain shut in morning; Will trading take place

Commodity Market Closed Today, Commodity Market Holiday Today: The commodity market in India will be closed today (March 8) in the morning session on account of Maha Shivratri. Trading will not be available in commodities like gold, silver, copper, lead, aluminum and others on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).

Commodity Market Time

The MCX functions in two different sessions — morning and evening. As per the MCX website, trading in the morning session in the commodity market takes place between 9 AM and 3:30 PM. As per details available on MCX, MCX will open for trading in the evening session at 5 PM. The evening session ends at 11:55 PM (instead of 11:30 PM between every November and March of the following year). Agri-commodities are available for futures trading up to 5:00 PM while International referenceable Agri-commodities are available up to 09:00 PM as notified by SEBI.

Commodity Market Holidays In March

The MCX trading will remain closed in the morning session on March 25 due to Holi. Trading will, however, take place in the evening session, as per MCX website. On March 29, the commodities market will be fully closed on account of Good Friday.

Commodities Market on Thursday (March 7, 2024)

On Thursday, the gold prices rallied by Rs 500 to Rs 65,650 per 10 grams in the national capital. The silver prices also jumped by Rs 400 to Rs 74,900 per kg. The bullion market is on an uptrend amid firm global cues and Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s latest comment on rate cut.

Stock Markets Closed Today (March 7)

Meanwhile, the domestic equity market will remain shut today on account of Maha Shivratri. Earlier on Thursday, Sensex and Nifty closed flat with positive bias. The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 33.40 points or 0.05 per cent to close at 74,119.39. The index reached an all-time peak of 74,245.17. The Nifty went up by 19.50 points or 0.09 per cent to settle at 22,494.50. The index made an all-time high of 22,525.65. The Nifty Bank index which tracks the banking sector comprising of 12 banking stocks, fell 129.60 points or 0.27 per cent to finish the session at 47,835.80.
