Collinsville native Brian Krumm performing Miners Theatre Oct. 13

COLLINSVILLE — Brian Krumm and Al Holliday, both Collinsville natives and musicians with their own bands, respectively, will play the historic Miners Theatre on Friday, Oct. 13.

The upcoming concert will feature Krumm’s new project, Brian Krumm and His Barfly Friends, and Holliday and the East Side Rhythm Band.

“I also have a new album out on Chicago’s Pravda Records and we are touring in October to support that release,” Krumm said.

The concert will be a good time to see the recently rehabbed Miners Theatre at 204 W. Main St. in Collinsville. The historic commercial building is now a performance space.

The Miners Theatre is associated with the city of Collinsville’s first most important industry, mining. The first coal mine was sunk in the city in 1857. The town grew with the industry and by 1886 a person could walk underground through connecting tunnels between the mines from one edge of the city limits to the other.

In 1916, a representative of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) Local 264 convinced fellow miners that a union hall and public theater should be built. Mining ceased in the city and the building underwent ownership changes and purposes. Miners Theater was placed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 1985, named a Collinsville Progress Historic Landmark in 1993, and named a City Collinsville Historic Landmark in 2013.

Krumm will sing songs from his new album “Just Fade Away,” and 11-song collection, influenced from a range of artists including the Jayhawks, Warren Zevon and Bob Dylan. Krumm is also front man for Chicago’s Americana-noir group The Great Crusades.Brian Krumm and His Barfly Friends is his first solo project.

“Just Fade Away” was released by Pravda Records as a digital download, 12-inch vinyl LP, CD and via streaming platforms June. 2. The band completed a sold-out tour of Germany that same month, with shows in the U.S. scheduled for the rest of the year.

Krumm formed The Great Crusades more than 20 years ago, following his tenure with The Suede Chain. The Great Crusades’ debut, “The First Spilled Drink of the Evening” was released in 1997 earning the praise of Rolling Stone’s David Fricke.

In 2000, “Damaged Goods” was released by Glitterhouse Records in Europe and Checkered Past Records in North America. Next, the Never Go Home tour was presented by Musikexpress Magazine and the band appeared on the TV program Rockpalast.

In 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic put music venues on hold worldwide, Krumm focused on solo work and began writing the materials that’d wind up on “ust Fade Away.”
