City of Billings approves immediate funds to fix Sinkhole near Shipton’s Big R


The flood waters that hit so many homes and businesses in early June washed away a large chunk of Gabel Road and closed it in both directions for about a four-block stretch when the flooding initially hapiened

The sinkhole is directly in front of Shipton’s Big R store on Billings West End.
The Billings City Council passed an emergency resolution to pay for repairs on Gable Road including the massive sink hole.
Heavy rain in early June caused extremely high runoff on Hogan Slough at Gabel Road east of South 27th Street West causing the sinkhole and water continues to run high because of relentless on and off again rain showers in the area.
The overflow damaged the culvert and the road have left a major sinkhole and erosion in the nearby ground.
The City of Billings approved the emergency funding to fix the damage and now there are visible concrete barriers directly traffic around the damaged road.


No word on when the repair is expected to be finished.

The City Council approved the resolution, giving the city administrator authority to spend approximately $500,000.

If the city had to go through the normal bid process, it would take about two months for the approval before construction would begin.
