Bureau of Land Management holding listening sessions on management of Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash.-The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public input on management of the Yakima River Canyon.

The BLM acquired 647 additional acres in the canyon this year to be used for recreation access and riparian/upland habitat conservation and will hold listening sessions for the community to provide feedback on how the land should be managed and used.

Open-house style listening sessions are scheduled for July 1 and 3, as well as Sept. 21, according to a BLM press release on the sessions.

Feedback may also be submitted through an online story map that features more information on the BLM’s management plan and an interactive map of the Yakima River Canyon.

BLM listening sessions:

  • July 1: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the REI Seattle Flagship store at 222 Yale Avenue in Seattle.
  • July 3: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Umtanum Recreation Site at 16338 Canyon Road.
  • July 3: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Big Pines Recreation Site on Canyon Road.
  • Sept. 21: 8 a.m. to noon at the Canyon River Ranch at 14700 Canyon Road.
