Boil Water Alert remains in effect for parts of Jefferson County


After a large water main break in Jefferson County, Birmingham Water Works continues to help the community as a Boil Water Alert remains in effect.The alert was put in place as a precaution because of the size of the water main break. During a news conference at 1 p.m. Monday, BWW stated it would continue for at least another 24 to 36 hours.More than 10,000 cases of water have been handed out at this time, according to BWW.Birmingham Water Works fixed a large main break Friday evening that impacted more than 10,000 people in northwest Jefferson County. Forestdale resident, Johnny Howze said, “It’s been kind of frustrating because my physician said I have to drink three bottles of water every morning, and you got to boil then cool And, you know, that’s frustrating.”Michael Johnson is General Manager at Birmingham Water Works. He said, “This particular pipe was cast iron and with cast iron pipe, sometimes when it cracks it can do like your windshield and it can kind of shatter. The alert was put in place as a precaution because of the size of the water main break. During a news conference at 1 p.m. Monday, BWW stated it would continue for at least another 24 to 36 hours.

More than 10,000 cases of water have been handed out at this time, according to BWW.
