Boil water advisory issued for part of Brighton Township

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A boil water advisory has been issued for part of Brighton Township.

Officials said a delivery truck drove over a recent construction area, causing a leak. The leak was reported to the Livingston Community Water Authority at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The water was shut off at around 2:15 p.m. so a repair contractor could work. Officials believe the repair work will be completed by 4 p.m. on Saturday.

When water mains lose pressure, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes enter the water.

The boil water advisory applies to residents of the Country Club Annex Subdivision who receive water from the Livingston Community Water Authority and live on the following streets:

• Leland

• Van Winkle

• Burson west of Military

• Clara Jean

• Ethel

• Businesses along Weber Street

Residents have been instructed to bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and let cool before using — or to use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food.

Officials said it is likely that residents will need to boil water for the next 72 hours. An additional notice will be sent out when tests show that water does not need to be boiled.
