B20 Summit 2023 Highlights: ‘Need a global framework for cryptocurrency; ethical

In his keynote address at the closing session of B20 Summit, 2023 in the national capital on Sunday, PM Modi recalled how India supplied vaccines beyond its borders and became the ‘Pharmacy of the World’ during the “once-in-a-century pandemic” — Covid-19.

“India holds an important place in building an efficient and trusted global supply chain,” PM Modi, said referring to supply chain issues during the pandemic.

“When the world needed medicines, during the Covid pandemic, India, as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’, provided life-saving drugs to more than 150 countries. When the world needed a Covid drug, India enhanced production of its own vaccines to save the precious lives of millions across the globe,” he said as per news agency ANI. 

N Chandrasekaran, Chair, B20 India and Executive Chairman, Tata Sons, India handed B20 Presidency to Brazil on Sunday. Chandrasekaran added, “The presidency of India’s B20 has been highly praised and recognized for its effective process, engagement, and consensus-building in generating 54 significant recommendations over the past 9 months”.

The approach of Digital Public Infrastructure, which has gained global prominence, can also help in the area of climate adaptation and mitigation going forward, Chairman and Co-Founder of Infosys and the founding Chairman of UIDAI, Nandan Nilekani said during Day 3 of the B20 Summit.

Nilekani said India has found a “balance” between responsible regulation and innovation due to its participatory model, as he showcased the country’s success story on digital public infrastructure (DPI), which has accelerated inclusion in the country.

“This celebration is to accelerate India’s growth. This celebration is about innovation. This celebration is about bringing in sustainability & equality with the help of space technology…” PM Modi said.
