Algiers substation power outages entergy

New Orleans firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire at an Entergy substation in Algiers. The fire left thousands in the dark. NOFD responded to reports of a grass fire in the 6700 block of Patterson Drive Friday morning. Fire officials said they had to make forcible entry into a substation gate to access an electrical substation. Entergy had to de-energize several transformers to allow firefighters to put out the fire. No injuries were reported. Entergy has since restored power to all customers, but at the height of the outage, more than 9,000 customers were in the dark. According to The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, officials with their agency are on scene responding to a discharge of 150 gallons of mineral oil. According to LDEQ, an environmental cleanup contractor is on-site monitoring the situation to ensure environmental compliance. Neighbors reported to WDSU that they heard a loud boom just before 9 a.m., followed by a power outage. The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board also gave residents the all clear to use their water after a power outage at its wastewater treatment facility.
