Alcohol delivery company’s sales soar during election

Alcohol sales for delivery company Drizly skyrocketed Tuesday as many Americans anticipated the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, NPR reported.

Sales of alcoholic beverages, including wine, liquor and beer, surged by nearly 75 percent in blue states, such as California, Connecticut, Oregon, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, New Jersey and Illinois, on Election Day, according to NPR.

Sales in states traditionally favoring Republican candidates, including Wyoming, Idaho, Louisiana, Tennessee, Missouri, and Oklahoma, rose by 33 percent, while sales in swing states increased by almost 55 percent, NPR reported.

Larger spikes in sales were recorded in major cities across the U.S., including Washington, D.C., and New York City, NPR reported.

The largest percentage of Drizly’s increased sales were for wine deliveries, which totaled about 42 percent while liquor followed at 41 percent and beer at 15 percent, NPR reported.

Sales for the company overall reached an increase of about 68 percent on Election Day, which surpassed sales from the last four Tuesdays. Drizly saw a similar surge four years ago during the 2016 presidential election, according to NPR.
